About Mount Pisgah National Scenic Area

Mount Pisgah National Scenic Area

Located within the Willamette National Forest in western Oregon, Mount Pisgah National Scenic Area encompasses approximately 4,600 acres centered around the prominent Mount Pisgah peak, which rises to 1,535 feet. This area features diverse landscapes including forested slopes of Douglas fir, western red cedar, and bigleaf maple, as well as open meadows and riparian zones. The scenic area was established to protect Mount Pisgah’s unique natural and cultural values while providing abundant recreational opportunities. Historically, the peak and its surroundings have long been important to Native American tribes, and today it continues to attract outdoor enthusiasts from across the region. Visitors can enjoy a network of well-maintained trails leading to summit viewpoints with sweeping vistas of the Cascade Mountains to the east, including Mount Hood and Mount Jefferson, and the vineyards and farms of the Willamette Valley to the west. Wildlife viewing is rewarding here, with possibilities of spotting black-tailed deer, bald eagles, and a variety of songbirds. The area also features interpretive signage and picnic facilities, making it family-friendly and educational. In addition to hiking, mountain biking and bird watching are popular activities, while winter occasionally brings opportunities for snowshoeing. Mount Pisgah’s combination of accessible terrain, rich ecology, and scenic prominence makes it a beloved natural landmark close to urban centers like Eugene.
